Encyclopedia Britannica Goes Digital. Utilize Custom Online Framing

Big News in the printing and publishing industries!! encyclopedia brittannica

Today the 244 yr long tradition of the Encyclopedia Britannica ends with over 7 million printed sets.  Since 1768 in Edinburgh Scotland the Britannica has been in continuous print.  You can check out their blog posts to learn more about this event.http://www.britannica.com/blogs/

You can read Dale Hoiberg's excellent post Britannica Goes All-Out Digital  which he really highlights and goes into detail all of the benefits of a digtial product.

At first I was kind of sad that such a staple will no longer be available to hold and flip through the pages to reference.  I remember as a child having these sets in the house and my parents would use them to answer strange and obscure topics that where brought up from time to time.

If you have any sentimental value to these sets of encyclopaedia's you can still for a limited time get the last set.

I was just thinking how much I am struggling with Facebook's new timeline now this?

So the question you might be asking why does In The News care about one of the oldest publishing companies going fully digital?

First understand that we wish the Britannica all the best and much success we are 100% positive they will adapt and remain a viable place to obtain great information.  This transformation gives us some very important information.  What we know is companies are afraid of change especially publishers.

Secondly we have a vested interest in the publishing industry.  We mount and preserve articles into custom laminated wall plaques.  We subscribe to a majority of publications throughout the country over 6,000 newspapers, magazines, business journals etc.

We have been dealing with publishers for over 25 years and change is not their strong suit.  The companies that have adapted to digital media like Britannica will survive the ones that don't will not.

But it comes down to how you are going to make your information digitally available to your potential customers.

  1. Are you going to hide your information and charge a fee? (this is like the old days) Where a subscription was the main focus of the industry.
  2. Or are you going to make your information available for free and use advertising as you means of revenue.

We are going to take a look at both of these options because what we are seeing is a big mess.  Some magazines and newspapers allow you to view their editions online for free, some charge a small fee in addition to having the hard copy subscription, and some try and charge you the same amount for both.

This is where we can help.  We are going ot put together some convincing outlines and try and help the industries as much as we can. Our next couple of blogs will focus directly on this issue.

We want to be here for the industry when it all goes digital.  Our feeling is we will be the last available resource for publishers to get exposure of their material.  Yes you can share it online with a friend but what about having it out in public.

For the last 25 years we have taken great press and preserved it for millions of individuals and companies across the US.  Why not consider taking great information online and transforming it onto a wall plaque.

Track your press, take the great articles and preserve them with our unique framing service @ In The News.
