company plaquesIf you missed the first installment: How to throw a company party and show off some of your achievements you can read it here.

Here is part two of your friendly budget office party tips and suggestions from In The News.

So let's say you've already made the economical decision to have the party in your office. You've decided to do an open house, not only for the employees good-will but for your vendors and clients. A couple of new questions arise.

Do you have it in the conference room, lunch room or let it spread to the work areas?  First consideration is space.

  • Which space has the most footage?
  • Which space is the most practical (refrigeration, heating for hot dishes, sink for clean-up).
  • If people are going to be working during the event which space would be the least distracting to the workers.
  • If your going to expect people to get work done, you'll need to make sure separation between the event and work spaces is wide.

Decorations:

Make sure that any press and awards are properly displayed in a strategic area for viewing by outsiders and to inspire your employees. You can take them all into a store for framing so that you have a consistent look. But, you'll have to find a shop, compare prices with other shops, gather up all the press, drive to the store pick out the matting and framing, wait till the project is finish then, drive back to the store (assuming their done in the promised time frame) and pick them up.

Or you can call me at In The News, I'll do it all. Gather the articles have them done in a consistent look and ship it to you in time so all you have to do is hang them up. gwalton@inthenewsonline.com 800-548-3993.

You could go to a number of the Party stores in your area and just by the decorations.

But, again why not involve your employees. Ask if they have a special decoration that they'd like to bring into the office to use in the decor. They may have a decoration that one their children made that they'd like to contribute.

Or ask if employees children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews would like to make a decoration to bring into to the office. Sometimes, though they may not look professional they can mean so much more to all the company members than something someone just bought at a store. You could even turn this idea into a contest for the best decoration.

Beverages:

This can be a touchy subject. Do you service alcohol or not? This is a question of risk. Do you want to be responsible if someone over indulges? Does your insurance cover the risk's? Will anyone get any work done if I allow alcohol? What if someone gets into an accident on the way home even if their not over the limit will it still expose the company to a law suit?

My advise is: If you're in doubt DON'T!!!

Why not reintroduce the Punch Bowl. Have all the employees bring a bottle of soda or fruit punch and sherbet. As the day goes on and you pour in new bottles of soda the taste will change several times making it like a whole new drink all the time.
