When should you send out your wedding invitations?
It depends on where your wedding will be held, the s
ize of your guest list, and how formal it is. For most weddings, about 6 months ahead works well. You also may want to consider setting up a Facebook page for the wedding, such as the Smith/Jones wedding, complete with updates on how the planning is going, asking for suggestions and a map to both the wedding and reception. You may even want to link your registry to the page.
If you're having a destination wedding, it's a good idea to send invitations 6 - 8 months before so guests have plenty of time to make travel arrangements. Also send them early if you have an extensive B list or if your venue has limited capacity (getting early responses can help you make room for other guests). Again a Facebook page with links to hotels, restaurants and maps would be very helpful for guest.
If you're planning small, local and/or informal wedding you can send invitations 4 - 5 months before, let guests know by e-mail, or forgo the save the date and just send a wedding invitation (about 2-3 months before the wedding.
