A high quality and attractive plaque is often made to commemorate someone’s successes, growth or personal achievements. In some cases, however, plaques are created to commemorate all three of these reasons; such is the case for 28 year old professional lacrosse offensive player Paul Rabil, nicknamed “Fast Shot.”
High Caliber Plaques for High Caliber Accomplishments
In 2007, Paul was awarded the McLaughlin Award, presented to the nation’s most outstanding NCAA lacrosse midfielder. Now a regular customer here at In The News, he has ordered over seven sleek, customized plaques since 2011, commemorating his MVP status with the National Lacrosse League, Major League Lacrosse and World Lacrosse Championship. Paul ordered his most recent plaque in January for additional athletic achievements.
As expected, achievements of Paul’s athletic level are worthy of a prideful and timeless display, which is why he chose to have them professionally mounted by quality experts: to preserve and boldly express pride in his life’s incredible successes, training and hard-won accomplishments.
Now a six-time Major League Lacrosse all-star and 2010 World Lacrosse Championship MVP, Paul has no shortage of accomplishments to be proud of; but for Paul, personal accomplishments aren’t the only things worth commemorating.
Athletics For a Cause
The Paul Rabil Foundation, founded by Paul in 2010, specializes in helping children across the country with learning differences achieve what they dream to achieve, and provides support for many partnerships and programs that can improve the lives of these children through sports. Paul, a dyslexic athlete himself, focuses on helping children with dyslexia accomplish all they hope to through athletics and understanding. Paul had the following to say about his inspiration in creating the foundation:
“The learning differences that many children face are in the classroom, and can be very damaging to confidence, reputation and future goal setting. I want to positively affect those that face these challenges by giving them the opportunity to succeed through sports, or financially with the opportunity to go to school in an environment that fits their specific needs.”
Using his experience as an athlete constructively, Paul utilizes his fame and wealth from professional lacrosse to promote the sport and better his community. A political science graduate from Johns Hopkins University, Paul uses his entrepreneurial spirit to extend his experiences with the nation’s youth.
Rabil Lacrosse, Inc., established in 2008, focuses on sharing information and lacrosse education with the youth market, to promote what has been called America’s ‘fastest growing sport.’ The Paul Rabil Experience, created in 2013, is a unique lacrosse education program available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The program, which educates youth in proper instructional materials, nutrition and training components, seeks to professionally train and constantly improve young lacrosse players up through high school athletic programs.
Paul is also an instructor and founder of the renowned Project Nine high school lacrosse training camp, which trains high school level lacrosse MVPs in preparation for the collegiate Division 1 lacrosse level. Highly exclusive, the training camp accepts the 50 most promising lacrosse players in the United States and prepares them for the competition and discipline of professional lacrosse.
History and Professional Career
Paul picked up lacrosse at 12, playing passively until he attended DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Maryland, where he fully embraced the sport and made it a lifestyle, practicing and playing every day. Following high school, Paul decided to play with Johns Hopkins University’s decorated Blue Jays lacrosse team.
After helping the Blue Jays win the 2005 and 2007 NCAA Lacrosse Championship, Paul was selected first overall in the Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft and second overall in the National Lacrosse League entry draft in 2008. Taking full advantage of his new, hard-earned opportunities, Paul began playing professionally for both leagues, playing for the Boston Cannons and Philadelphia Wings. Paul is a current member of Team USA Lacrosse, after joining the team in 2010.
Community Involvement
Paul, always seeking to use his fame and experiences to promote his sport and share lacrosse education with the nation’s youth, is part of many prominent professional and education lacrosse organizations, including:
- Blue Jays Unlimited Board of Advisors
- Tewaaraton Foundation Board of Directors
- Charm City Youth Lacrosse Board of Directors
- Maryland Advisory Council on Physical Fitness Board of Directors
- Creative Director for GamePlan Lacrosse, LLC
- MC10 Advisory Board
On the Paul Rabil Foundation’s mission statement page, his commitment towards youth and those with learning difficulties are highlighted with one utterly powerful statement:
“Positive reinforcement is important as many students with learning disabilities have poor self-esteem. Without this, many children and adults will face learning and coordination or klutzy difficulties often leading to ridicule and/or self-recrimination. Many drift into drugs and alcohol — even crime. Their loss and cost to society is incalculable. And tragically, this staggering loss was, and is, preventable.”
